Our first game of the year is coming up this Saturday as Beltway rivals Baltimore and DC go head-to-head in Metro Game 1/5.

The teams will play five games in the Battle of the Beltway series this year, with a trophy and pride at stake.

This game will be a test for new recruits, and the general fitness of both sides, with most players having started pre-season training as early as February.

Both teams have recruited well over the pre-season, with roughly 20 new players combined donning the gear for the first time this Saturday with their respective clubs.

There’s also notable outs – Baltimore will be missing the experienced mix of Ian Payne, Kit Drury, Ryan Cartwright and Tracy Williams, while DC will be without captain Jay Levesque, Danny Seow, Rob Strange, Matthew Woodruff, and “Big Rob”.

Their absence will leave the door open for new recruits and upcoming players to prove their worth as they compete for spots one month out from the Baltimore-Washington Eagles’ first USAFL match against league heavyweights New York.

It’ll be a tough scrimmage, with the midfield battle the key to deciding the winner. It’s a hard one to pick with the likes of Baltimore’s skillful duo Dean Vigus and Nick Sisca up against USA Revolution candidate Keith Thornburg and veteran Jake Moyer.

We’ll be posting updates throughout the game on our Twitter, with a final summary to follow on our Facebook page. Be sure to follow both!
